nothin'

I was getting ready the other day and Mac was suspiciously quiet... which usually means either he's getting into trouble or he's angelically perched by a window, looking for "big twucks". I called out to him, with a slight essence of warning in my voice, "Mac, what are you doing??"

"Nothin!"

So of course, after I came back to life after dying of cuteness overload and laughter, I tried to recapture this gem by video:

nothin from Ashley Kirnan on Vimeo.

A few items to note/disclaimers:

- Yes, Brynlee is laying motionless on the bed, transfixed by the iPad.
- The rug on the floor is a new rug for Mac's room. I had just unwrapped it and was encouraging Mac to run around on it to flatten it.
- The cradle. :)
- The room is not staying blue, we haven't touched the walls upstairs yet.
- The green chair is hopefully going to be reupholstered someday soonish. Perhaps in a grey fabric?
- Disregard my evil-sounding laugh at the end. He was killing me and I was totally under his spell. Oh how I love that boy.

time on my hands

I have this whole week off... and I've been trying to keep busy. I'm not used to having free time like this, so I've been trying to get stuff done and spend time with friends.... and savor this time!

Ryan and I FINALLY framed and hung the watercolored pictures we got in Venice... 3 1/2 years ago!!! They looked so pretty I couldn't NOT share...

My sis came over to watch AI with me tonight (Ryan's working) and wrapped Mink in a blanket before she left... He sat there forever just watching tv! I was cracking up... all alone, laughing at my cats. Hmmmm:)

50 things about me!

Kim tagged me for this one, I can't think of many truly "interesting" things... so I'll just write what comes to mind!

1. I love tea, but not sweetened tea.
2. I am an organization freak... I can't stand clutter.
3. I love candles.
4. I usually have to look at the keys when I type.
5. It takes me forever to get ready for bed, I don't know why but I hate it and I procrastinate so much when I'm doing it.
6. I used to model when I was little, hehe!!!!
7. I'm trying to learn to sew again.
8. I have lots of little methods of doing things... many of these little quirks have to do with the number 5 (yes, I know I have OCD).
9. I studied psychology in college and wanted to be a school psychologist.
10. I've wanted to work with children for as long as I can remember.
11. I love country music.
12. I would love to have twins, or more! :)
13. I HATE when people mix black and brown (clothing-wise).
14. In my freshman year of college, I was a redhead, brunette, and blond!
15. I am very loyal.
16. I think way too much... but then sometimes, not enough.
17. For as particular as I am, you'd think I'd have a better memory!
18. I was potty trained at 19 months.
19. To make up for the ease given to my mother by being potty trained so early, I stopped napping as soon as I turned two (I always have had to make everything even I guess, including good and bad things, sorry Mom!)!!
20. I hate snow, but I like looking at it.
21. I got a 4.0 ONCE in college... my last semester! I finally got it together.
22. I played the flute for over 7 years, but I haven't picked it up in a long time. :(
23. I also played the violin, that didn't last long.
24. I used to sing solos a lot in church, now I wouldn't sing alone for even 1 person.
25. I don't get sick a lot (hello, working with kids for 7 years) but when I do get sick it's BAD.
26. I have a lot of close friends, and I never take for granted how lucky I am to have each of them.
27. I knew I was going to marry my husband days into our relationship.
28. I love my husband and family so much more than I ever thought possible.
29. I used to love origami (nerd).
30. I love gold things... the color, not necessarily the actual metal.
31. I have to have my planner with me at all times and write down everything.
32. I love coupons and deals, and whenever I make out really well on a shopping spree I have to add up what everything actually cost and the price for everything on sale, then find out the difference.
33. I have a "bad side" that I try to avoid taking pictures on.
34. I am a list freak, sometimes if I'm making a list of things I have to do I write down things I've already done and cross them off.
35. I'm not a big napper, and I won't go to bed at might until I'm so tired that I know I'll fall right asleep.
36. I love girly things (A LOT).
37. However, I'm a tomboy at heart and love getting my hands dirty.
38. I wish I was better at photography.
39. I once tripped up the stairs in high school in front of a boy who I had a crush on (and who actually dated me after the fact!)!!
40. I also tripped in front of ALL the wedding guests at a wedding I was in recently... but it wasn't fully my fault. ;)
41. I love roadtrips.
42. I actually really like to clean!
43. I HATE making up the bed... not making it, but changing the sheets, especially with our monster bed!
44. I LOVE to dress up, probably because I never have a reason to on a day to day basis!
45. I will never forget how my poppa used to say "hi, Ashee!"
46. I used to take ballet... and I still can't help but dance if there is a big hardwood floor sprawled in front of me.
47. I used to be obsessed with Tetris.
48. I owned a Tamagotchi (well, I still do, but it died long ago).
49. I LOVE giving gifts and finding cool wrapping paper/bags.
50. I went to Barbados when I was 16 on a missions trip with my youth group and snorkeled over a shipwreck and almost drowned because of the undertoe at the beach.

Wow! A lot easier than I thought it would be! Anyone else care to play?

splash

Today was not really a good day. Actually, it was a fairly good day until about 2:30 pm... I decided to use the bathroom... and, my worst fear happened. Plop! I always carry my cell phone in my back pocket, and I am always so careful to make sure I either put my phone on the counter or at least take it out of my pocket. I was so mad, I felt so stupid. I quickly grabbed it out of the toilet (no, I had not peed yet! hehe) and took it apart, dried it, and let it dry all afternoon. Broken. The buttons would not work at all. I was so sad, I LOVED my phone! It's such good quality, the best and most easy to understand phone I've ever had... and it's pink! So I told the woman I work for, she gave me sympathy, laughed, and proceeded to offer her old cell phone to me... it's the same phone as mine, except it's black. Oh, did I mention practically brand new? She used it for a few months before she switched providers. Sweet! It was so sweet of her and took a HUGE weight off my shoulders after feeling so bad about the whole situation. We went to Sprint tonight and the guy switched the phone over AND the numbers in literally 30 seconds! Whew. I'm a lucky girl. So feel free to call me now. ;)

my face hurts

So supposedly I've disappointed a few people with my laziness and lack of posts... so here it is. A post BEFORE YOU EVEN GET HOME... take that AJ! Ryan, my parents and brother and sister, and I all went to see Brian Regan tonight, who is pretty much the best comedian ever. AJ and JK were there, too, OF COURSE, but they were way too cool to sit with us, or maybe Mike & Bev were the ones cooler than us, I don't know. Ryan and I saw him two years ago with Amy and John, and it was awesome, and this time was no less entertaining. I feel like we are part of some kind of cult or something, it's pretty sad when you can recite an act word for word and still die laughing... I'll leave you with a clip, it's older stuff, but still good. If you don't think it's funny, you need to either 1) never speak to me again, or 2) watch it another 20 times and memorize the material, then repeat it as it applies in real-life situations... trust me, you'll get it eventually.

Oh, and no pics from tonight, boo. I didn't want to risk getting my camera confiscated by the crazy usher ladies (who could DEFINITELY be donut ladies...) and I really had no reason to take any of all of us, even though I got to wear the supercute shirt Alyssa got me for my birthday... oh well. The video is enough. :)

Fashion

I so love my job. Those kids bring me such joy. Seriously, nannying is so rewarding, not just with the experience, but with what I get back from the kids. I love them as much as I know how... I know it will be different with my own kids, but they sure do reflect that love and let me enjoy the time before I have my own.
I've been meaning to share this Garrett story for awhile... this occurred a while back, but not too far, maybe this past spring. Mind you, this child is 4 1/2.

Garrett: Ashley, you're so funny! You have rips in your jeans! (*sticking his fingers in the holes in my jeans and laughing*)
Me: Garrett, they are not rips. They are called "fashion."
Garrett: Ohhhhh... (*truly absorbing the information*)
A few days later, we were sitting at the table, eating lunch. Garrett, for no apparent reason, begins studying his sock covered foot, turning it over, examining... when he should have been eating his sandwich, over the table, chew with your mouth closed.
Suddenly he gasped and jerked his head up toward me.
Garrett: ASHLEY!!!! LOOK!!! (*lifting his foot up*) MY SOCKS HAVE FASHION ON THEM!!!!!
I looked. Sure enough, a small hole was forming on the heel of the sock.

Now THAT is why I get up and go to "work" everyday. :)

Small Victories & Small "Presents"

Mom and Dad came out today and did some work on the house with Ryan... Dad got all of the windows trimmed out and fixed the bedroom and bathroom doors so that they will now shut all the way! woot! They also got the spare bedroom (home of Couch Mountain) cleared out, and put the couches and some other stuff down in the newly-cleaned basement... check it out....

6.3.07

7.27.07
I know, it's still pretty messy and disorganized, but hey I can see the floor! Who knew we had one of those in there?!

Where was I all afternoon and evening? I was watching the kids.... we had a great night, they were so good. So good, that is, until the end of bathtime when a certain little curly-headed girl calmly handed me a piece of poop. Um, yeah, bathtime was definitely over. I'll be with the kiddos all weekend, too, wish me luck!

The Cat's Diary

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...
